For over 12 months now Rediscover Historic Martinsville, Inc. has been a part of Indiana Main Street. Founded on basic principles from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
We have are set up with four committees that have very set principles to work by.

The Organization Committee

ü  involves getting everyone working toward the same goal
ü  assemble the appropriate human and financial resources to implement a Main Street revitalization program
ü  promote organizational structure of the volunteer-driven program.
This structure not only divides the workload and clearly delineates responsibilities, but also builds consensus and cooperation among the various stakeholders.

The Promotion Committee 
ü  sell a positive image of the commercial district
ü  encourage consumers and investors to live, work, shop, play and invest in the Main Street district
ü  market the district's unique characteristics to residents, investors, business owners, and visitors
These activities improve consumer and investor confidence in the district and encourage commercial activity and investment in the area. 

The Design Committee
ü  Get Main Street into top physical shape
ü  Capitalize on its best assets
This conveys a positive visual message about the commercial district and what it has to offer.

Design activities also include

ü  instilling good maintenance practices in the commercial district

ü  enhancing the physical appearance of the commercial district by

§  rehabilitating historic buildings

§  encouraging appropriate new construction

§  developing sensitive design management systems

§  use of long-term planning

 Economic Restructuring
ü  strengthens a community's existing economic assets
ü  expands and diversifies its economic base
ü  helps sharpen the competitiveness of existing business owners and
ü  recruits compatible new businesses and
ü  new economic uses to build a commercial district that responds to today's consumers' needs
ü  Convert unused or underused commercial space into economically productive property

Coincidentally, the four points of the Main Street approach correspond with the four forces of real estate value, which are social, political, physical, and economic.
